Truffle Woodland and Orchard Surveys

For twenty years we have worked with truffles across forests, woodlands and orchards all over Europe and the UK, using trained dogs to locate multiple truffle species in both wild and cultivated environments.

Woodland & Orchard Surveys

In addition to our work as hunters, we are increasingly asked by landowners, estates and forestry projects to carry out structured truffle surveys in both private woodland and planted truffle orchards.

The aim of these surveys is to look for evidence of truffle production and to assess the practical potential of the site over time.

Our Approach

Each survey is tailored to the site, conditions and objectives. We currently work with a team of eight highly trained truffle dogs and these are selected according to season and environment. Some of our dogs are better suited to exploring large, open areas with higher levels of wildlife activity, while others are methodical and work more effectively within the confines of an orchard.

In some cases, a survey may also include support for owners who are training their own truffle dogs. In these cases, our team also includes experienced “teacher dogs” . They have been trained to assist less experienced dogs through calm, structured shadowing work in real search environments.

During the visit, we walk the site and discuss truffle ecology in context, including factors affecting production and practical considerations for managing or supporting the habitat. A written summary of the discussion and key findings is provided afterwards.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality has always been an important part of our lives as truffle hunters, and the same applies to our survey and orchard work. Most of the sites we visit are private. We do not solicit or publish client reviews on this site or elsewhere, nor do we  photograph clients, their dogs  or  their land. Discretion is guaranteed, and we are happy to work under confidentiality agreements for extra peace of mind.

Working With Us

If you would like to discuss a woodland, orchard or potential truffle site, the first step is an initial consultation. This is free and gives us a chance to understand the land, the history of the site and what you are hoping to learn from the survey.

From there, we can advise on whether a visit is likely to be worthwhile and what type of survey work may be most appropriate.
