Direct from the Hunter
My family got into truffle hunting entirely by accident on account of the pigs we used to keep on our smallholding. One evening we were approached by a student who was researching white truffles. He knew we kept pigs and wanted me to teach a small one to find truffles. Unfortunately, this pig project never worked out. However the student had sparked our interest and we decided instead to train the family dog. This was more successful.
In the 19 years that followed, we have abandoned our day jobs and are now full-time professional truffle hunters. We work in woodlands throughout Europe with our team of 8 truffle dogs, hunting several species but mainly the precious white truffle.
Our main goal has always been to end the disappointment that many people experience when buying truffles. This produce has a very short shelf life and a flavour which diminishes quickly. The more parts to the supply chain, the more disappointing the truffle. We keep it simple by selecting the truffles of the day and sending them directly to the customer.
I began this site in 2019 to create a hub for information on the many aspects of sustainable truffle hunting and the truffle industry. Over the years, Real Truffle Hunters has grown into a trusted resource for truffle lovers, landowners and dog handlers.
